Sign in to Orchestrator from Studio

Connect Studio to your Orchestrator through your browser, choose a tenant and workspace, and sign out.

Studio signs in to the Orchestrator through your web browser, so you never type your password into Studio. The sign-in is shared with the VeloPhex Assistant on the same machine: signing in or out in one does the same in the other. You need to be signed in to: publish packages to the Orchestrator (see Publish to Orchestrator), use Orchestrator activities such as Get Asset or Add Queue Item in runs from Studio (see Run and debug workflows). Prerequisites# An account in an Orchestrator tenant. To publish, your role needs the permission to create packages; the Automation Developer role has it. The Orchestrator's https:// address. Set the Orchestrator address# Open Settings (Ctrl + ,) and select Publishing. In Orchestrator URL, enter the address, for example https://orchestrator.example.com. HTTPS onlyStudio refuses an http:// address, because the access token would travel unencrypted. http:// is accepted only for localhost. If this machine is already connected to an Orchestrator through the Assistant, Studio uses that Orchestrator and fills in the address for you. Sign in# Start the sign-in in one of these ways: Select Sign in in the status bar, where the Orchestrator workspace is shown. Select the account button in the title bar (it shows ? while you are signed out), then Sign in. Select Sign in on the Not signed in to Orchestrator notification. Run Sign in to Orchestrator from the command palette (Ctrl + Shift + P). Studio opens your browser on the Orchestrator's sign-in page, and the status bar shows Continue in your browser. Sign in to the Orchestrator if it asks you to. The page reads Sign in to VeloPhex Desktop and lists the permissions Studio will get, limited to the ones you hold. Check that you started this sign-in yourself, then select Approve. The browser tab shows Signed in. You can close this tab and return to VeloPhex. Close it. Back in Studio, the status bar shows the tenant and workspace, and the account button shows your initials. The browser step times out after 5 minutes. If it does, or if you select Deny, start again. Verify# Select the account button in the title bar. You should see your user name, the Orchestrator address and the tenants you belong to. Choose the tenant and workspace# Tenant: select the account button, then pick a tenant under Tenant. No new sign-in is needed. Publishing goes to this tenant. Workspace: select the workspace in the status bar and pick one. Orchestrator activities in runs from Studio read and write in this workspace. It is the same as Settings > Publishing > Orchestrator workspace. Select Refresh next to the workspace to reload the tenants and workspaces after an administrator changes them. Connected machinesWhile this machine is connected to an Orchestrator through the Assistant, Studio signs in only to that Orchestrator, and the tenant may be locked to the machine's tenant. An administrator changes the connection in the Assistant. Select the machine status in the status bar (for example Machine connected) to open it. Where the sign-in is stored# Studio keeps the sign-in in Windows Credential Manager, for your Windows account on this machine only. It is never written to the project or to Studio's settings files. Studio renews it in the background, and it lasts until you sign out or an administrator revokes it. If renewal fails, Output shows that your sign-in ran out; sign in again. To revoke Studio's sign-in from the Orchestrator side, use your profile's Security page in the web app. Sign out or switch Orchestrator# Sign out: select the account button, then Sign out, or run Sign out of Orchestrator from the command palette. This also signs the Assistant out. Switch to another Orchestrator: sign out, change Settings > Publishing > Orchestrator URL, then sign in again. Next steps# Publish to Orchestrator. Enrol a Robot to connect this machine so it can run jobs.
