Business rules

Upload DMN decision tables as business rules, inspect and test them in the web app, publish new versions, and evaluate them through the API.

A business rule is a DMN decision table, such as "which approval level does this invoice need". Keeping the table in the Orchestrator lets business owners change thresholds without a new package. Business rules belong to a workspace; open them from Business rules in the workspace sidebar. The Orchestrator reads DMN 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 files of up to 2 MB that contain a decision table. Cells use simple FEEL tests: comparisons (< 5000), ranges ([5000..25000]), lists separated by commas, literal values, and - for "any". Hit policies such as FIRST, UNIQUE, ANY, PRIORITY, COLLECT and RULE ORDER are supported. Upload a business rule# You need business_rules.edit in the workspace. Open the workspace and select Business rules. Select Upload DMN. Choose the DMN file, and enter a Name and an optional Description. Confirm the upload. The rule appears with its decision, number of inputs and outputs, hit policy and version. Inspect and test a rule# Select the rule. The Overview tab shows the Decision name, Decision ID, Hit policy, the Inputs (label, expression and type), the Outputs and the rules table. The DMN XML tab shows the uploaded file. On the Evaluate tab, enter a value for each input and select Evaluate rule to see the Result. Publish a new version# Open the rule and select Upload new version. Choose the changed DMN file and confirm. The version number goes up. Download DMN gets the current file, for example to edit it in a DMN modeler. Evaluate a rule from your systems# Call the API with a token that has business_rules.view in the workspace: Evaluate a business ruleHTTPCopyPOST /api/v1/tenants/{tenantId}/workspaces/{workspaceId}/business-rules/{ruleId}/evaluate Authorization: Bearer <your access token> Content-Type: application/json { "inputs": { "amount": 12000, "vendorCategory": "Preferred" } } Input names are the input expressions shown on the Overview tab.
